The purpose behind the "g":
A g Thing! is a creative agency in the City of Chicago that aids as a catalyst in bringing unsung voices and their narratives to the broader community through artistic activism as a means of shifting political consciousness to influence systems change.
Glenance Green, founder and director, started the agency in 2016 as a strategy for uniting local artists and their crafts across creative communities as a tool of movement building. From stage plays to screenplays to novels, A g Thing! is an attempt to showcase narratives often untold and voices traditionally unacknowledged. Glenance's creative endeavors cut across creative industries and genres. Every creative project is a new text in a larger discourse. The "g" in A g Thing! is representative of contributions both relevant and valuable to Glenance and representative of the greatness that underrepresented communities embody. It is her hope that the beautiful creations produced will result in expressions of healing, nourishment for the soul, and social and political awareness and engagement.
One of those beautiful creations was the development of Melanin Voices, a series performance collective of poetry and live literature purposed to showcase the local, unsung voices in literature and highlight the narratives illuminated from their writings. These largely scripted shows, inclusive of poetry, short stories, vignettes, fiction, and non-fiction work of various Chicago artists, are weaved together to create a beautiful narrative.
